Each year, thousands of elderly and disabled people across Florida are deemed by social service workers to be incapable of caring for themselves, pulled from their homes and sent to live in assisted living facilities.

A Miami Herald investigation found that Florida’s adult protective services program can strip seniors of their autonomy, their home and their dignity. Largely operating without judicial oversight, the program can place seniors in assisted living facilities with long records of health violations without the knowledge of friends and caregivers.

The Herald is asking Floridians with first-hand experience to contact us and share your stories to help us better understand how this affects families.
