How does your hospital rank for specialty care? See the South Florida list
Several South Florida hospitals ranked high in the nation for eye care, rehabilitation, neurology and other specialties in a new report by U.S. News & World Report, with some Miami-area medical centers also securing spots on the state’s Top 40 list.
Some of the report’s highlights:
- Baptist Health South Florida, the region’s largest not-for-profit healthcare system, said it earned a “record 63 total awards this year and recognition in 31 different types of care” and that this “milestone marks 15 consecutive years that Baptist Health has led the region in overall U.S. News & World Report distinctions.”
- Bascom Palmer Institute, part of the University of Miami Health System, was named the top hospital in the nation for ophthalmology for the 22nd straight year. The eye hospital has landed the No. 1 spot on the U.S. News list 24 times.
- For the third year in a row, the Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at UHealth/Jackson Memorial made it into the Top 50 for rehab hospitals in the nation. This time, it got the No. 28 spot, ranking in the top 3% of rehab hospitals in the nation. The rehab hospital is part of Miami-Dade’s public hospital system.
- Cleveland Clinic Weston was named the best hospital in South Florida for the second straight year in a row. The Broward hospital also earned national recognition for how it treats patients with stomach and digestive conditions. The hospital says its earned the No. 1 spot for the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area eight times in the past 10 years.
- Cleveland Clinic Weston, Baptist Hospital in Kendall, and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach also secured spots in the Top 10 for Florida hospitals.
- AdventHealth Orlando was ranked No. 1 in Florida and made it onto this year’s “Best Hospitals Honor Roll,” making it one of “the best of the Best Hospitals,” according to U.S. News website.
What to know about the report
Several organizations rank and rate hospitals to help patients find the best care, whether they need treatment for a complex condition or a common medical procedure. One of the most best known is U.S. News & World Report, which has evaluated hospitals for decades and recently released its annual 2025-2026 “Best Hospitals” list. The publication used a variety of measures, including federal data, to evaluate more than 4,400 hospitals in the country across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions to create its 2025-2026 “Best Hospitals” rankings and ratings.
Some Florida hospitals snagged a spot on U.S. News national Top 50 list for several specialties. Other hospitals didn’t make the cut but were rated “high performing” — a designation indicating the hospital ranked among the top 10% nationally — in certain specialties, procedures and conditions.
Here’s how your hospital did:
Top hospitals in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area
U.S. News ranked eight hospitals in the South Florida area. Some South Florida hospitals also made it into Florida’s Top 40 list.
1. Cleveland Clinic Weston: Scored the No. 1 spot in South Florida and the No. 6 spot in Florida. Also earned national recognition for gastroenterology and GI surgery, snagging the No. 30 spot on the Top 50 list. Ranked as “high performing” in five specialties and 18 procedures/conditions.

2. Baptist Hospital in Kendall: Earned the No. 2 spot in South Florida and the No. 7 spot in Florida. Also earned national recognition for diabetes and endocrinology, securing the No. 50 spot on the Top 50 list. Also ranked as high performing in six specialties and 16 procedures/conditions.
“The continued recognition by U.S. News & World Report as being among the very best in the nation is a testament to our unwavering commitment to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to every patient we serve,” Baptist Health President and CEO Bo Boulenger said in a statement. “Being the most awarded healthcare system in South Florida for the last 15 years reflects the extraordinary dedication of our physicians, nurses and team members, and our constant pursuit of innovation, research and excellence across all service lines.”
3. Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach: Secured the No. 3 spot in the South Florida rankings and also rounded out the Top 10 Florida list, at No. 10. Received “high performing” marks in four specialties and 17 procedures/conditions.
“This acknowledgment is a reflection of the shared commitment of our entire team to deliver safe, high-quality and compassionate care to the communities we serve,” Mount Sinai Medical Center President and CEO Gino R. Santorio said in an emailed statement.
“Mount Sinai’s recognition as High Performing in four specialties — geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology — as well as in 17 individual procedures and conditions, highlights the strength of our clinical programs and the outcomes they produce,” he added. “While different ranking systems weigh varying metrics, we remain focused on what matters most: continuously improving quality, enhancing the patient experience, and delivering better outcomes. Through rigorous performance improvement efforts and a dedicated focus on patient communication and satisfaction, we are elevating care across every level of our organization.”
4. UHealth: earned the No. 4 spot in South Florida and nationally ranked in three specialties, the most of any South Florida hospital. The national rankings: No. 23 for neurology and neurosurgery; Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in South Florida, landed the No. 45 spot for cancer, and Bascom Palmer at No. 1 for ophthalmology. It was rated “high performing” in geriatrics and 11 procedures/conditions. UHealth ranked No. 12 statewide.
“Our continued high rankings in a wide range of programs reflect our longstanding commitment to excellence in patient care,” Dr. Dipen J. Parekh, chief executive officer of UHealth and executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Miami, said in a statement. “As an academic medical center, we are dedicated to providing the most advanced treatments and care to our patients and their families. National rankings are just one indicator of that success.”
5. Memorial Hospital West: Rounds out the Top 5 list for South Florida and was also ranked No. 18 in statewide rankings. Also rated “high performing” in 13 procedures/conditions. The Pembroke Pines hospital is part of Memorial Healthcare System, one of two public hospital systems in Broward County.
In a statement, Memorial said it’s “proud to provide high-quality care that is recognized across the country,” noting that its hospitals collectively earned “high performing” ratings in 27 procedures and conditions. “Being consistently ranked among the nation’s best reflects the compassion, expertise and dedication of our clinical teams who deliver exceptional specialty care to every patient and family.”
6. HCA Florida Kendall Hospital: Secured the No. 6 slot for South Florida, the No. 28 spot in the statewide rankings and rated “high performing” in 10 procedures/conditions.
7. Memorial Regional Hospital: Earned the No. 7 slot in South Florida and tied with three other Florida hospitals for the No. 31 spot in the statewide rankings. The Hollywood hospital also was classified as “high performing” in 11 procedures/conditions.
8. Baptist Health South Miami Hospital tied with HCA Florida Aventura Hospital and HCA Florida Mercy Hospital in Miami for No. 8 on South Florida’s list. All three were rated “high performing” in eight procedures/conditions. The three hospitals also tied with AdventHealth Palm Coast for the No. 37 spot in the statewide rankings.
How did South Florida’s public health systems do?
Two South Florida public health systems — Jackson Health in Miami-Dade and Broward Health in Broward County — did not make the South Florida or Florida rankings, although they were recognized for specialty care.
Jackson Health ranked nationally in one adult specialty — No. 28 in rehabilitation through its rehab hospital — and was also rated “high performing” in six procedure/conditions.
“Being named among the nation’s best once again is a true honor,” said Brenda Cain, vice president and chief executive officer of rehabilitation services at Lynn Rehabilitation Center. “Every day, our dedicated team goes above and beyond to help patients rebuild their lives and reach their highest level of independence.”
Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale was rated “high performing” in maternity care (uncomplicated pregnancy); Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach was rated “high performing” in two procedures/conditions; and Broward Health Coral Springs was rated “high performing” in three procedures/conditions.
“Broward Health is proud to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its 2025–2026 Best Hospital Procedures & Conditions Ratings. Broward Health North was recognized as high performing in hip replacement and stroke, while Broward Health Coral Springs earned high-performing recognition in diabetes, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,” the hospital said in a statement. “These distinctions reflect the dedication of our caregivers who continue to be the champions for a healthier community.”
At Memorial Healthcare, the other public hospital system in Broward County, two hospitals — Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines and Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood — earned spots on the top hospital list for South Florida and the state. Memorial Hospital Pembroke in Pembroke Pines was rated “high performing” in two procedures/conditions. Memorial Hospital Miramar was rated “high performing” in heart failure.
What about other South Florida hospitals?
Other Miami-Dade and Broward hospitals didn’t make it into the rankings, but were rated “high performing” (in the 10% nationally) for certain specialties, procedures and conditions. The list below doesn’t include children hospital’s because those results will be released in October.
- Baptist Health Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables was rated “high performing” in three specialties and six procedures/conditions. Baptist Health West Kendall Baptist Hospital was rated “high performing” in two specialties and six procedures/conditions.
- Coral Gables Hospital and Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, formerly owned by Steward Health and now operated by Healthcare Systems of America, were rated “high performing” in two procedures/conditions. The company’s Hialeah Hospital and North Shore Medical Center in North Miami-Dade were rated “high performing” in one procedure/condition.
Healthcare Systems of America, in an email to the Miami Herald, said it’s “proud to recognize the achievements” of its South Florida hospitals and that it congratulates “our teams at Coral Gables, Palmetto General, Hialeah, and North Shore for this recognition and thank them for their ongoing dedication to advancing health and wellness in our region.”
- HCA Florida Northwest Hospital in Margate was rated “high performing” in three procedures/conditions. HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital in Tamarac was rated “high performing” in two procedures/conditions.
- Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale was rated “high performing” in six procedures/conditions.
- Westside Regional Medical Center in Plantation was rated “high performing” in five procedures/conditions.
