Jackson Health announces plans for hospital in Doral
Jackson Health System has expanded its plans for a medical campus in Doral to include a 100-bed hospital for overnight patient admissions, administrators for Miami-Dade’s public hospital network announced on Monday.
The proposed 100-bed hospital would be in addition to previously announced plans for Jackson to build a children’s outpatient clinic, a freestanding emergency room and urgent care center, physician clinics and other medical facilities on a 27-acre tract at 7800 NW 29th Street in Doral.
Carlos Migoya, Jackson’s chief executive, said in a memo to Miami-Dade commissioners that he has begun the lengthy process of applying for a hospital through the state’s certificate of need program.
Jackson officials recently completed the land purchase for $38.5 million, using voter-approved public funds and the hospital system’s own capital reserves. Prior to Monday’s announcement, Jackson officials estimated the cost to develop the project was $31 million.
