A Miami-Dade Walgreens pharmacy kept expired drugs in active stock, state says

A Miami-Dade Walgreens got a rare dishonor for a large chain’s pharmacy on Wednesday: being the subject of a Florida Department of Health administrative complaint.

The department told the state Board of Pharmacy that a March 14 inspection of the Aventura Walgreens at 18865 Biscayne Blvd. revealed that it “maintained one or more units of a prescription medication drug in active stock that was expired.”

According to state administrative code, “all outdated, damaged, deteriorated, misbranded or adulterated prescription drugs and pharmaceuticals shall be removed or quarantined from active stock.”

As is common, the violation caused the same complaint to be filed against that pharmacy’s designated pharmacy department manager, Noel Auerbach. Auerbach’s responsible for the pharmacy’s compliance with state rules.

Administrative complaints start the process toward potential discipline.
