You can watch live as Florida Supreme Court hears arguments over 15-week abortion ban
The Florida Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments Friday in an abortion case that will likely determine the future of access in the state.
The conservative seven-member court will weigh whether the current ban on nearly all abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy violates the state’s constitutional right to privacy. Attorneys for the state and for plaintiffs, including abortion providers, are arguing their cases Friday, but the justices are not expected to rule until later.
If the justices rule in favor of the state, that will trigger even tighter restrictions on abortion. Florida lawmakers this year passed a bill banning most abortions after six weeks, but it only goes into effect if the state gets a favorable ruling over the 15-week abortion ban.
