State says Florida doctor propositioned a patient after massaging her breasts and bottom
A Lake Mary doctor told a patient whose breasts and buttocks he had just finished massaging that he had permission from his wife to go outside their marriage for sexual satisfaction, a state complaint says.
The patient denied Dr. Aunali Khaku permission to get that pleasure. She hadn’t given him permission to touch her breasts or buttocks. And, now, Khaku doesn’t have permission to practice medicine in the state of Florida after a voluntary surrender of his license that became final on Wednesday.
The surrender was Khaku’s response after an administrative complaint was filed against his license on March 9. He had been licensed in Florida since Nov. 19, 2012. Khaku’s LinkedIn profile says he’s still an associate professor of neurology in the University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine, but the college’s online listing of faculty doesn’t include him.
An online search of Seminole County court records shows no criminal or civil charges filed against Khaku. Though his online Florida profile says Khaku is also licensed in Pennsylvania, an online check of those records turned up no license.
A brain cyst, high blood pressure and an erection
The administrative complaint by the Florida Department of Health says a 68-year-old patient saw Khaku on Nov. 30, 2020, for treatment of a cyst in her brain, severe migraine headaches and high blood pressure.
As described in the complaint, after a preliminary examination by an assistant, the assistant left the room and Khaku entered. According to the complaint, this is what ensued:
Khaku examined her neck and massaged her neck. He then asked the patient to lie face down on the exam table and lift her skirt. He began massaging her buttocks.
He stopped massaging her buttocks after he said he heard a voice and told her to sit up. Once she sat up, Khaku went to the woman’s right side and began massaging a breast.
The patient “felt frozen and nervous while [Khaku] massaged her breasts, and expected someone to walk into the examination room,” the complaint said.
Khaku asked the patient if she was comfortable with the way he was touching her and complimented her looks. She told him she wasn’t comfortable with how he was touching her.
Khaku “explained that his wife cannot have sex with him, but had given him permission to go elsewhere for sexual gratification,” the complaint said.
Khaku asked if she’d have sex with him. Upon her rejection, he told her they should keep this between themselves. Khaku then pointed to the outline of his erection in his scrub pants.
The patient left.
