Florida COVID update: New county case totals. South Florida sees continued case decline.

Florida on Friday reported 20,095 COVID-19 cases and eight new deaths to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.

In the past seven days, the state has added 194 deaths and 18,796 cases per day, on average, according to Herald calculations. Florida has recorded a total of at least 5,610,464 confirmed COVID cases and 66,001 deaths.

South Florida and Manatee continue seeing declines in new cases

Here’s a breakdown of how many new COVID-19 cases were reported this past week in South Florida and Manatee County. The Florida Department of Health includes county resident case totals in its weekly coronavirus report, which is released on Friday.

Miami-Dade County reported 16,208 new resident cases in the week ending Feb. 3, according to Herald calculations of the state’s weekly report. The county’s resident case total stands at 1,137,694.

New infections fell by 30%, after falling by 51% the week before (Jan. 21 - Jan. 27).

Broward County reported 7,794 new resident cases in the week ending Feb. 3, according to Herald calculations of the weekly report. The county’s resident case total stands at 581,106.

New infections fell by 35%, after falling by 48% the week before (Jan. 21 - Jan. 27).

Palm Beach County reported 5,758 new resident cases in the week ending Feb. 3, according to Herald calculations of the weekly report. The county’s resident case total stands at 353,799.

New infections fell by 34%, after falling by 42% the week before (Jan. 21 - Jan. 27).

Monroe County reported 280 new resident cases in the week ending Feb. 3, according to Herald calculations of the weekly report. The county’s resident case total stands at 17,370.

New infections fell by 44%, after falling by 42% the week before (Jan. 21 - Jan. 27).

Manatee County reported 2,892 new resident cases in the week ending Feb. 3, according to Herald calculations of the weekly report. The county’s resident case total stands at 90,834.

New infections fell by 23%, after falling by 16% the week before (Jan. 21 - Jan. 27).

FLORIDA COVID VACCINE RATES

About 14,011,491 eligible Floridians — 65.2% of the state’s population — have completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or have completed Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

VACCINATIONS IN SOUTH FLORIDA, MANATEE COUNTY

Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida and Manatee County, according to the CDC:

In Miami-Dade County, about 2,242,729 people, or 82.5% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.

In Broward County, about 1,358,229 people are fully vaccinated, or 69.6% of the county’s population.

In Palm Beach County, about 969,020 people are fully vaccinated, or 64.7% of the county’s population.

In Monroe County, about 56,782 people are fully vaccinated, or 76.5% of the county’s population.

In Manatee County, about 243,397 people are fully vaccinated, or 60.4% of the county’s population.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida

There were 8,132 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services report on Friday. This data is reported from 260 Florida hospitals. The number of people hospitalized across the state is 347 fewer than the day prior.

COVID-19 patients take up 13.86% of all inpatient beds in the latest report, compared to 14.3% among the previous day’s reporting hospitals.

Hospitalizations during omicron’s wave have not approached records set during delta’s surge last summer. At delta’s August peak, more than 15,000 patients were hospitalized across the state, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 1,278 were in intensive-care units, a decrease of 21 from Thursday. That represents about 19.73% of the state’s ICU beds, compared to 20.04% the previous day.

Friday’s Miami-Dade County report said there were 685 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals on Thursday, a decrease of 45 from the previous day. Of the 79 new COVID patients, 58 (73.42%) had not been vaccinated. Intensive care patients numbered 143, decreased by 15 from a day earlier.

Broward County’s Friday report said there were 479 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals, a decrease of 37 patients compared to the day before.
