Broward County is opening new COVID-19 testing sites in January to help meet a surge of demand that has left people stuck in lines for hours and at-home test kits sold out in many stores.

The new test sites will be at Mullins Park in Coral Springs, Lauderhill Sports Park in Lauderhill, Tree Tops Park in Davie, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek and Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill. At least four of the sites previously served as testing or vaccination sites.

Here’s the schedule:

Mullins Park, 10000 Ben Geiger Dr., in Coral Springs. Opens Monday, Jan. 3. It will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3 to Thursday, Jan. 6. Starting Jan. 9, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Lauderhill Sports Park, 7500 W. Oakland Park Blvd., in Lauderhill. Opens Tuesday, Jan. 4. It will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Tree Tops Park, 3900 SW 100th Ave. in Davie, will open Wednesday, Jan. 5. Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Tradewinds Park, 3600 W. Sample Rd. in Coconut Creek, will open Monday, Jan. 10. Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The addition of new sites comes as Florida continues to see a record number of cases this holiday season. Broward also began distributing free at-home test kits Thursday through some of its public libraries — and the kits are running out fast. By early afternoon, several libraries had run out of tests.

The sight is similar to what was seen in Miami-Dade County earlier this week, when thousands of free kits were distributed to help meet demand.

As a reminder, all health department-run testing sites in Broward County will be closed Friday, Dec. 31 and Saturday, Jan. 1. The test site at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will be open. However, people who visit that site will need to show proof of travel plans to or from FLL on any airline.

If you need a test on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, Miami-Dade County will have a few test sites open.
