Need a quick COVID test? You can get a free take-home one at Miami-Dade public libraries

If you want a test for COVID, you’ll have a quicker way starting Monday morning.

Miami-Dade County is giving out free take-home rapid tests at 27 public libraries. The distribution begins at 9:30 a.m. and will last as long as the supplies do. The limit is three tests for each household, according to the county library system.

Rapid antigen tests work with saliva samples. And while the PCR coronavirus test is the standard given by medical professionals, the rapid tests are more accurate than first thought.

Health experts say it’s a good idea to take a rapid test before gathering with others. And with the number of cases setting records in Florida as the omicron variant spreads, here is your opportunity for a free test kit.

“As we continue to work to meet the enormous demand for testing across Miami-Dade, free take home rapid test kits will be available,” Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levina Cava said in announcing the giveaway.
