Florida COVID update: Seven-day case average highest in three months
Florida on Monday reported 18,404 COVID-19 new cases and 71 new deaths to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.
The case and death numbers represent two days of data as the CDC doesn’t report cases and deaths on Sunday.
In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,766,552 confirmed COVID cases and 62,264 deaths.
In the past seven days, as the omicron version of the virus circulates, the state has added 27 deaths and 7,068 cases per day on average, according to Herald calculations of CDC data. That rolling seven-day case average is the highest it’s been since Sept. 27, when it was at 7,303.
About 82% of the deaths added occurred since Dec. 6 and 85% happened in the last 28 days.
