Monday’s Florida COVID-19 update: 7-day case averages and hospitalizations are on the rise
Florida has reported 3,865 COVID-19 cases and 66 new deaths, 35 of which occurred in the last two weeks, according to Sunday’s report to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on Miami Herald calculations of CDC data released Monday.
In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,717,079 confirmed COVID cases and 62,073 deaths. In the past seven days, the state has added 41 deaths and 2,106 cases per day, on average, according to Herald calculations of CDC data. The 7-day case average is the highest since Oct. 21.
The CDC rates the community transmission for each South Florida county as “substantial.”
Vaccinations in South Florida and Manatee County
Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida and Manatee County, according to the CDC.
▪ In Miami-Dade County, about 2,151,771 people, or 79.2% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.
▪ In Broward County, about 1,298,582 people are fully vaccinated, or 66.5% of the county’s population.
▪ In Palm Beach County, about 934,710 people are fully vaccinated, or 62.4% of the county’s population.
▪ In Monroe County, about 54,704 people are fully vaccinated, or 73.7% of the county’s population.
▪ In Manatee County, about 234,748 people are fully vaccinated, or 58.2% of the county’s population.
COVID-19 Hospitalizations in Florida
There were 1,403 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Monday report. This data is reported from 258 Florida hospitals. That is 20 more than Friday’s report, when 262 hospitals reported.
COVID-19 patients take up 2.48% of all inpatient beds in the latest report’s hospitals, compared to 2.38% in Friday’s reporting hospitals.
Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 291 were in intensive care unit beds, an increase of 37 from Friday’s report. That represents about 4.69% of the state’s ICU hospital beds, compared to 4.33% the previous day.
