Florida COVID update: 1,548 cases added to state tally, more people in the hospital
Florida reported 1,548 COVID-19 cases and no new deaths on Tuesday, according to Wednesday’s report to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.
The Florida Department of Health will most likely add more deaths to Tuesday’s total, increasing it from zero. The state has done this in the past when it has added cases and deaths to previous days during the pandemic.
In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,674,581 confirmed COVID cases and 60,846 deaths.
In the past seven days, on average, the state has added 61 deaths and 1,454 cases per day, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.
FLORIDA COVID VACCINE RATES
About 13,030,030 eligible people in Florida — 60.7% of the state’s population — have completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or have completed Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
VACCINATIONS IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND MANATEE COUNTY
Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida and Manatee County, according to the CDC.
▪ In Miami-Dade County, about 2,094,634 people, or 77.1% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.
▪ In Broward County, about 1,260,368 people are fully vaccinated, or 64.5% of the county’s population.
▪ In Palm Beach County, about 912,602 people are fully vaccinated, or 61% of the county’s population.
▪ In Monroe County, about 52,811 people are fully vaccinated, or 71.1% of the county’s population.
▪ In Manatee County, about 228,912 people are fully vaccinated, or 56.8% of the county’s population.
COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida
There were 1,415 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to a Wednesday report by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which compiled data from 227 Florida hospitals. Hospitalized COVID patients increased by 56 from Tuesday’s report, when 233 hospitals submitted data.
COVID-19 patients take up 2.61% of all inpatient beds in the latest report’s hospitals, compared to 2.52% in the previous day’s reporting hospitals..
Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 298 people were in intensive care unit beds, a decrease of two. That represents about 4.78% of the state’s ICU hospital beds, compared to 4.85% the previous day.
Wednesday’s Miami-Dade County report did not include hospitalization information.
Broward County’s Wednesday report said there were 123 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals, a decrease of two from the previous day’s report.
