FL COVID update: Here’s what new county death tolls are, as 1,552 more COVID-19 cases added

Florida reported 1,552 COVID-19 cases and one new death on Monday, according to Tuesday’s report to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.

In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,673,033 confirmed COVID cases and 60,846 deaths.

In the past seven days, on average, the state has added 61 deaths and 1,439 cases per day, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.

COVID deaths in South Florida and Manatee County

The CDC’s Community Profile Report released county-level death data for Florida’s 67 counties.

It is unclear when these newly reported deaths occurred. The Community Profile Report updates Florida’s county death tolls and rates about once every seven days, when or after the COVID-19 weekly situation report is published by the Florida Department of Health on Fridays.

As of Monday’s Community Profile Report, Florida had a death rate of 283 cumulative deaths per 100,000 people since the start of the pandemic. Two weeks ago, the state had a death rate of 277 deaths per 100,000 people.

Here’s where death rates and tolls stand in South Florida and Manatee, according to the CDC.

Miami-Dade County’s death toll sits at 9,066, an increase of 47 deaths from the CDC’s Thursday report. That’s a rate of 334 cumulative deaths per 100,000 people since the beginning of the pandemic.

Broward County’s death toll sits at 4,870, an increase of 25 deaths from the CDC’s Thursday report. That’s a rate of 249 cumulative deaths per 100,000 people since the beginning of the pandemic.

Palm Beach County’s death toll sits at 4,239, an increase of 38 deaths from the CDC’s Thursday report. That’s a rate of 283 cumulative deaths per 100,000 people since the beginning of the pandemic.

Monroe County’s death toll sits at 96, an increase of one death from the CDC’s Thursday report. The county would be at a death rate of 129 deaths per 100,000 people if its population were that large.

Manatee County’s death toll sits at 1,208. The CDC has removed 14 deaths from its death toll, which had increased by 96 to 1,222 on Nov. 5. Manatee has a rate of 300 cumulative deaths per 100,000 people since the beginning of the pandemic.

FLORIDA COVID VACCINE RATES

About 13,016,480 eligible people in Florida — 60.6% of the state’s population — have completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or have completed Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

VACCINATIONS IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND MANATEE COUNTY

Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida and Manatee County, according to the CDC.

In Miami-Dade County, about 2,090,520 people, or 76.9% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.

In Broward County, about 1,258,228 people are fully vaccinated, or 64.4% of the county’s population.

In Palm Beach County, about 911,361 people are fully vaccinated, or 60.9% of the county’s population.

In Monroe County, about 52,757 people are fully vaccinated, or 71.1% of the county’s population.

In Manatee County, about 228,635 people are fully vaccinated, or 56.7% of the county’s population.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida

There were 1,359 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to a Tuesday report by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which compiled data from 233 Florida hospitals. Hospitalized COVID patients increased by 15 from Monday’s report, when 256 hospitals submitted data.

COVID-19 patients take up 2.52% of all inpatient beds in the latest report’s hospitals, compared to 2.43% in the previous day’s reporting hospitals..

Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 300 people were in intensive care unit beds, an increase of 10. That represents about 4.85% of the state’s ICU hospital beds, compared to 5.19% the previous day.

Tuesday’s Miami-Dade County report did not include hospitalization information.

Broward County’s Tuesday report said there were 125 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals, a decrease of two from the previous day’s report.
