Florida COVID update: Hospitalizations continue to decline; almost 13 million fully vaxed

There were 1,439 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, continuing a trend of decreasing hospitalizations in the state, according to a Sunday report by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which compiled data from 258 hospitals.

The total is 30 less than Saturday’s report, when 260 hospitals submitted data.

COVID-19 patients took up 2.55% of all inpatient beds in the latest report’s hospitals, compared to 2.56% in the previous day’s reporting hospitals.

Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 301 people were in intensive care unit beds, a decrease of 39. This is based on 264 hospitals that submitted data. That represents about 5.39% of the state’s ICU hospital beds, compared to 5.57% the previous day.

COVID-19 vaccinations in Florida

About 12,983,190 eligible people 12 and older in Florida — 60.4% of the state’s total population — have completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or have completed Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

As of Sunday, the CDC’s vaccination tracker does not yet include kids ages 5 to 11, a group that was recently authorized to receive kid-size doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. The CDC says this will be added in the coming days.
