Florida COVID update: 1,927 cases added and 1,594 patients hospitalized
Florida on Monday reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 1,927 COVID-19 cases and 221 deaths, according to Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.
In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,661,182 confirmed COVID cases and 60,418 deaths.
Of the deaths added Monday, about 87% occurred over the past 28 days and about 38% in the last two weeks, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.
In the past seven days, on average, the state has added 132 deaths and 1,506 cases per day, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.
FLORIDA COVID VACCINE RATES
About 12,923,685 eligible people in Florida — 60.2% of the state’s population — have completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or have completed Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
VACCINATIONS IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND MANATEE COUNTY
Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida and Manatee County, according to the CDC.
▪ In Miami-Dade County, about 2,074,435 people, or 76.4% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.
▪ In Broward County, about 1,249,919 people are fully vaccinated, or 64% of the county’s population.
▪ In Palm Beach County, about 905,756 people are fully vaccinated, or 60.5% of the county’s population.
▪ In Monroe County, about 52,462 people are fully vaccinated, or 70.7% of the county’s population.
▪ In Manatee County, about 227,278 people are fully vaccinated, or 56.4% of the county’s population.
COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida
There were 1,594 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Monday report. This data is reported from 254 Florida hospitals. While that is 17 more patients than Sunday’s report, the state has been seeing a declining trend in hospitalizations.
COVID-19 patients take up 2.82% of all inpatient beds in the latest report’s hospitals, compared to 2.80% in the previous day’s reporting hospitals.
Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 355 people were in intensive care unit beds, a decrease of 21. That represents about 6.22% of the state’s ICU hospital beds compared to 6.13% the previous day. This number is based on 260 hospitals reporting compared to 254 hospitals.
Monday’s Miami-Dade County report did not include hospitalization information.
Broward County’s Monday report said there were 156 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals, a decrease of two from the previous day’s report.
