Florida COVID update: 3,141 cases added, state passes 12.5 million fully vaccinated residents

Florida on Saturday reported 3,141 more COVID-19 cases and three deaths to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.

In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,604,846 confirmed COVID cases and 56,413 deaths since the pandemic began.

In the past seven days, the state has added, on average, 200 deaths and 3,403 cases per day, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.

Florida COVID-19 Vaccine Rate

About 12,505,089 eligible Floridians — 58.2% of the state’s population — had completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or received Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Vaccinations in South Florida and Manatee County

The CDC reported that every Florida county’s level of community transmission remains high. Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida, according to the CDC.

In Miami-Dade County, about 1,997,531 people, or 73.5% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.

In Broward County, about 1,209,609 people are fully vaccinated, or 61.9% of the county’s population.

In Palm Beach County, about 880,270 people are fully vaccinated, or 58.8% of the county’s population.

In Monroe County, about 50,811 people are fully vaccinated, or 68.5% of the county’s population.

In Manatee County, about 218,681 people are fully vaccinated, or 54.2% of the county’s population.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida

There were 3,945 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to a Saturday report by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which compiled data from 259 Florida hospitals. The number of hospitalized COVID patients dropped by 295 from Friday’s report, when only 257 hospitals submitted data. This continues a trend of decreasing hospitalizations.

COVID-19 patients take up 6.78% of all inpatient beds in the latest report, compared to 7.40% in the previous day’s report.

Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 1,146 people were in intensive care unit beds, a decrease of 56. That represents about 17.05% of the state’s ICU hospital beds, compared to 17.35% the previous day.
