Hand sanitizer distributed out of Kendall recalled for ethanol, ‘toxic’ methanol content

All 8-ounce and 1-liter bottles of Florance Morris Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer, distributed only in Florida by Kendall-based Asimex International, have been recalled days after being put on the FDA’s Do Not Use List for having methanol.

This recall doesn’t appear to include the other sizes of Florance Morris made by Grupo Asimex de Mexico, distributed by Asimex International and on the National Drug Codes List website.

Saying methanol (wood alcohol) is toxic if absorbed into the skin, the FDA has put all hand sanitizers it finds with methanol on the list as well as any hand sanitizers reported to be made in the same facility.

The two kinds of Florance Morris distributed by Asimex tested as having methanol, the FDA said. The Florance Morris distributed by Las Vegas-based Roldan Industries got put on the list by purported association. The Do Not Use list says all were recalled, but Grupo’s FDA-posted recall notice concerns only the 8-ounce and 1-liter bottles distributed in Florida.

That also said the recalled hand sanitizer might be too weak in ethanol content.

The lot Nos. recalled are 200520673, 200520674, 200525677 and 200601685.
