COVID-19 testing sites in South Florida reopen now that Isaias has passed by the area
With the threat of Tropical Storm Isaias moving away from Florida and toward the Carolinas, more than a dozen state and federal testing sites reopened at 8 a.m. Monday in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Some county-run popular testing locations remained closed and will reopen gradually Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.
Here are the drive-through and walk-up testing sites now open in Miami-Dade County:
Miami International Mall in Doral
Aventura Mall
Aardvark mobile testing site in Miami Beach
West Perrine Health Center
Holy Family Catholic Church in North Miami
Sherbondy Park in Opa-locka
Miami Jackson High School in Allapattah
Miami-Dade County Auditorium in Little Havana
Now open in Broward:
Publix in Coral Springs
Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise
Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale
Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach
McArthur High School in Hollywood
Now open in Palm Beach:
Town Center at Boca Raton
Some of Miami-Dade’s most popular testing locations at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and at the Miami Beach Convention Center, as well as Broward’s sites at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines, Markham Park and Target Range in Sunrise, and Vista View Park in Davie, are set to reopen on Wednesday, according to county officials.
Florida’s health department said it closed the sites, many of which were set up in tents, “out of an abundance of caution” to keep staff at the sites safe, the Herald reported.
Temporary federal testing locations — including Miami Jackson High School and Miami-Dade Auditorium in Miami-Dade, and Dillard, Blanche Ely and McArthur high schools in Broward — will remain open three days longer than expected until Wednesday to make up for weather-related closures.
State-supported testing venues closed by state order at 5 p.m. Thursday as the hurricane approached South Florida’s coastline. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez also closed county-run testing sites on Thursday, while Broward shut down several locations on Friday.
