Man spit at 69-year-old woman at Walmart after she asked him to wear mask, PA cops say

A Pennsylvania man was arrested and charged after police said he spit on a woman who asked him to wear a face mask at a Walmart.

Evan Spangenberg, 22, of Preston Park was arrested on Sunday after a 69-year-old woman asked him and another woman to wear face masks while shopping at a Walmart, according to a Pennsylvania State Police news release.

The woman with Spangenberg put on a mask but he refused and began arguing with the 69-year-old woman, the release said. Police said that she reported it to the customer service desk and Spangenberg allegedly ran back into the store and spit into her face. He then fled the scene, according to police.

Spangenberg was identified through video surveillance footage and was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment, according to the release.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has reminded the public of the state’s mandatory mask order.

“This virus is not gone, and mask-wearing is a required mitigation effort that we know works to stop its spread,” Wolf said in a news release, according to Penn Live.

More than 3.8 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the U.S. as of July 21, according to Johns Hopkins University, and more than 141,000 people in the U.S. have died from the virus.
