Two major airports will require travelers to wear masks during coronavirus pandemic
Travelers at two major airports in the U.S. will need to add another item to their checklist before leaving to catch their flights: face coverings.
As of May 6, the Denver International Airport is requiring all passengers and visitors to wear face masks as part of its new policy, Travel Pulse reported. Travelers will need to wear them throughout the airport, including through security screenings, although TSA may ask people to adjust their masks so officers can verify the passenger’s identity, according to CBS 4 Denver.
Los Angeles International Airport is following suit - travelers will need to start wearing masks inside the airport starting May 11, Travel Pulse reported. LA Mayor Eric Garcetti announced all passengers would need to use some form of face covering while traveling through LAX, according to KTLA.
Acceptable coverings include t-shirts, bandannas, scarves or any fabric that will stay in place, KTLA reported. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation is also requiring riders on public buses to wear face coverings, according to KTLA.
TSA announced security officers will be required to wear face masks in screening areas this week, Reuters reported. Local officials in some areas already require airport employees to wear masks, according to Reuters.
Most major U.S. airlines are requiring all passengers to wear face coverings onboard flights, at gates and during check-in, in some cases, Reuters reported. Southwest, Delta, American, Frontier, JetBlue and Alaska airlines are among the companies requiring travelers to wear face coverings, according to the Kansas City Star.
