Pro-Trump group plans drive-in rallies Friday to protest coronavirus stay-home orders

A group has organized at least 50 “drive-in” rallies around the country Friday to support President Donald Trump and protest stay-home orders.

A group called Women for America First organized the MAGA Mayday rallies for May 1.

“This will be a ‘drive-in’ rally for freedom. Get in your car, on your motorcycle, RV or whatever mode of transportation you desire and join the Drive for Freedom,” the group said on its website.

“All you need is your car, tank full of gas, an American Flag, signs, window chalk/shoe polish for the windows and a good music play list,” the event listings say, adding, “Be sure to wear your MAGA gear.”

There are rallies planned for cities in California, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Florida and other states. The group has connected with Reopen activists in states for the protests.

Activists organizing the events are adding drive routes to the events page on the organization’s website, where people will meet and drive by government buildings.

“This is the MAGA movement’s mayday call. America is in severe distress. The destruction of our economy and millions of jobs must stop. We must act now to save our nation,” the rally website says.

But, the group says, “We are not anti-quarantine. This virus is not a hoax.”

“However, America cannot destroy the lives and dreams of the majority to protect a few. The cure cannot be more dangerous than the disease,” organizers say on the website.

There have been a number of protests around the country calling on officials to lift restrictions on people and businesses, put in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Founding Fathers didn’t include a ‘in case of Virus’ clause in the Constitution that justified throwing our inalienable rights away by elected officials or bureaucrats. Freedom of speech and the right to peacefully assemble are our God given rights and are not to be erased or paused,” the organizers said.
