Miami-Dade’s animal shelter handing out pet food on Friday to ease burden for owners

Miami-Dade’s animal shelter Friday will offer up a drive-through distribution of free pet food for dog and cat owners hurt by the economic fallout from the coronavirus crisis.

Miami-Dade Animal Services is hosting a drive-through “Pet Food Bank” on Friday, April 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or while supplies last), at the Pet Adoption and Protection Center at 3599 NW 79th Ave., Doral.

“We understand the financial and emotional stress our families are dealing with during these difficult times, so we want to assist our community pet owners by providing food for their furry family members,” said Animal Services Director Alex Muñoz.

The distribution is limited to Miami-Dade residents in vehicles. Walk-ups aren’t allowed, and Animal Services asks participants to wear face coverings.
