A new Broward coronavirus mobile testing site opens as county nears 2,500 cases
As Broward approaches 2,500 novel coronavirus cases with nearly 20,000 tests done in the county, another mobile testing site opened Wednesday.
Broward Health opened the new site at Central Broward Park, at 3700 NW 11th Pl. in Lauderhill, in an “effort to enable more patients to be tested for COVID-19, thus reducing risk of community spread,” the hospital system said in a statement.
The site is appointment only and has steps that must be followed before a test is allowed. Those who want to be tested at the park must get a written prescription from a physician and then call the Broward Health line at 954-320-5730 to register for an appointment.
If a primary care physician isn’t available, patients can use Broward Health’s BHealthy Now app that lets them get a virtual health screening from a physician without leaving home. This can also be done through the hospital website at BrowardHealth.org/COVIDApp.
Once a prescription and registration is acquired, a patient will also have to bring a photo ID to the site. Patients will drive through the park to be swabbed for COVID-19 from their cars. Test results will be sent to the prescribing physician, who will then alert the patient of the status.
There are two other testing sites in Broward at C.B. Smith Park and the Krupa Center.
C.B. Smith Park’s site, 900 N. Flamingo Rd., is only open for first responders who are symptomatic of COVID-19, those age 65 and over, and people who meet testing criteria. ID is required. The site is run by the Florida National Guard. Memorial Healthcare Systems and the Florida Department of Health.
The Krupa Center, 3250 Meridian Pkway., is run-by the Cleveland Clinic and is appointment only. Those wanting to be tested can call the Cleveland Clinic Florida appointment center at 954-659-5951 to be scheduled for a test. Callers will be screened by a nurse.
As of Wednesday morning, Florida had 15,456 confirmed cases, with the death toll at 296. Broward County had a total of 2,358 confirmed cases, 58 deaths and 295 hospitalizations.
