County opening drive-up testing site at Youth Fair for adults with COVID-19 symptoms

Miami-Dade plans to open a new drive-through testing site at Tamiami Park on Wednesday for adults with COVID-19 symptoms, and county operators are expected to begin taking appointments on Tuesday, a county commissioner said.

Joe Martinez, the county commissioner whose district includes the park, said county operators are taking calls Tuesday for Wednesday appointments. The number to call is 305-499-8767 for appointments at Tamiami and two other county drive-through sites at Marlins Park in Miami and the South Dade Government Center.

Testing is by appointment only, and restricted to people 18 and over with symptoms of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Symptoms include fever, coughing and difficulty breathing.

In a new release, Florida International University confirmed the Wednesday opening and said staff and students from FIU’s medical school and other arms of the state university with a campus next door to the park. “There is still a lot that we can learn and maybe even lives that we can save by widespread testing,” said Dr. Eneida Roldan, an associate dean at FIU who will serve as clinical director of the site.
