Coronavirus crisis forces American Airlines to slash daily New York-to-Miami flights
Starting Tuesday, only two flights a day will bring people from New York City to Miami on American Airlines, the dominant airline at Miami International Airport.
This is part of another reduction in flights from New York, an area slammed by the coronavirus pandemic, that was announced to employees in a letter from American Senior Vice President of Operations David Seymour. The reduced schedule will run until May 6.
Overall, there will be three flights out of JFK International Airport, to Miami (MIA), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Charlotte (CLT); eight flight out of LaGuardia, one of which will be to Miami; and two flights out of Newark, to DFW and Charlotte.
LaGuardia, JFK and Newark “will only operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Eastern time, as turn-only operations with no aircraft or crews remaining overnight at these three airports,” Seymour’s letter said. “The limited number of flights we will operate will have capacity restrictions in place to maintain social distancing onboard each aircraft.”
