Key Biscayne launches mobile testing for residents 65 and older
The Village of Key Biscayne has announced COVID-19 home testing for residents 65 and older who are experiencing symptoms related to the disease.
The test will be conducted by Key Biscayne Fire Rescue’s mobile testing unit and is part of a “pilot program” that could “gradually increase contingent on feasibility and sustainability,” the village said Thursday. Testing is by appointment only.
Officials say the home testing is the village’s newest attempt to protect the community from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The Village of Key Biscayne, which is at the end of the Rickenbacker Causeway, closed its border to all tourists and visitors late last month because of the pandemic.
As of early Friday afternoon, the village says its performed 10 tests and are “sourcing additional tests.”
Senior citizens 65 and older who live in Key Biscayne and are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms — fever, cough, shortness of breath — can call Key Biscayne’s KB COVID Hotline at 305-365-8910 to request an appointment. Callers will be screened during the phone call to see if they qualify for the home testing.
The hotline is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
