Another Port Everglades worker tests positive for novel coronavirus, the port says
Some of Broward County’s first COVID-19 cases came from Port Everglades. Now, yet another worker has contracted the sickness, the port says.
On Wednesday, Port Everglades administration said they learned a linehandler, someone who helps secure ships when they dock, is suspected to have tested positive for COVID-19.
The employee’s wife told the port that he had tested positive. Broward County’s Department of Health has yet to confirm the case, the port said.
The port did not release the name of the worker or how old the worker is.
The worker did not have contact with passengers or crew members from ships, the port said. He had last worked on March 24 and the port told about 10 of his co-workers to self-isolate for the next six days.
Earlier this month, three other Port Everglades workers tested positive. They were all connected to or employed by Metro Cruise Services.
As of April 1, Broward County had 1,232 confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to Florida’s Department of Health. State data continues to show 12 deaths for the county, despite health officials announcing Tuesday the death of a 63-year-old woman.
