Sedano’s providing masks and gloves for workers during coronavirus pandemic
Sedano’s stores have the coronavirus-era signs of plexiglas and social -distancing floor markings also common at Publix and Winn-Dixie.
But they also have employees covered with company-provided gloves and, usually, masks. That’s what separates it from its two main supermarket rivals in South Florida.
Publix provides gloves, but not masks now that it allows some employees outside food departments to wear both.
Being smaller works to that advantage for Sedano’s which is a 35-store chain. Publix has 1,239 stores and Winn-Dixie has 495 and is part of Southeastern Grocers chain.
“We are working closely with all of our store managers to make sure that employees who would like to use gloves and masks have these items available to them,” Sedano’s Chief Marketing Officer Javier Herran said in a statement.
“We are also working with suppliers to be able to get these supplies that are in high demand across the country,” he said. “As you know, there’s a shortage of masks and gloves everywhere, and we are working around the clock to secure the purchase of these items in the coming days and make sure that we have them stocked.”
