Chase, Wells Fargo and others close some South Florida banks due to coronavirus

Banking in South Florida is going to get a little harder as companies close branches and limit access due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Wells Fargo, Chase, SunTrust and TD Bank have begun to close branches, change store hours or mandate scheduling for in-person visits.

As of Wednesday, there were 1,977 positive case of COVID-19 in Florida, according to the Florida Department of Health.

No matter what bank you use for your finances, check your local branch for hours and closures. Here are changes from major banks that effect South Florida branches:

Wells Fargo

As of Friday, Wells Fargo reduced hours at many of its locations. New hours for these branches will be 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. Closed on Sunday. Check your local branch for hours.

Apart from changed hours, the bank is also reducing lobby access and closing branches. Many branches in South Florida have made lobby use by appointment only and others have temporarily closed. In order to schedule an appointment, visit Wells Fargo’s branch locator.

Some locations are also only allowing drive-thru access and limiting the number of customers in a branch at one time.

“As we continue to navigate the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation, our first thought is for the safety and well-being of all individuals and businesses impacted by these difficult circumstances,” Wells Fargo CEO Charlie Scharf said in a statement. “In these unprecedented times, it is important that we come together to support all those impacted.”

Chase

Chase also announced temporary closures and updated hours at some locations.

Most South Florida branches now have hours of 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Closed on Sunday. Other locations have temporarily closed, like the Surfside, Village of Merrick Park and Arthur Godfrey branches.

Check your local branch for hours.

Chase is also advising customers to stay at home if sick and use Chase Mobile, maintain a minimum distance of at least six feet and clean their hands often and avoid touching their face.

“As a mother, daughter and banking executive, COVID-19 has affected every part of my life. All of us at Chase know how much you and your communities are counting on us,” Chase Consumer Banking CEO Thasunda Brown Duckett said in a statement. “To help protect everyone, we’ve temporarily adjusted phone and branch service hours and closed some locations — and we’ll continue to adapt.”

SunTrust

Suntrust is also making major changes to its services at local branches. Unlike other banks, all in-person visits at every SunTrust bank must be scheduled.

According to its website, other changes SunTrust has made are: “Providing teller services through drive-thru lanes only, in-person visits by appointment only, and select branch closures.”

Some branches that don’t have drive-thru lanes will remain open with “enhanced sanitization measures.”

An appointment can be scheduled on its website here.

TD Bank

On Wednesday, TD Bank said it would be temporarily closing some of its branches and has updated reduced hours for branches that remain open.

TD Bank open branch hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday for the lobby and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for the drive-thru. Branches will only be open Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., unless it is normally closed.

Check your local branch for hours.

Tropical Financial Credit Union

On Monday, Tropical Financial Credit Union started only offering drive-thru service at certain branches in South Florida.

Branch hours have also been expanded from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Branches will be closed on Saturdays but ATMS will remain open.

Branches in Miramar, Plantation, Kendall and Coral Springs have temporarily closed because they do not have drive-thrus, but ATMs will stay open.
