An employee at a Miami children’s hospital has tested positive for coronavirus

An employee at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital confirmed Monday afternoon.

The worker — who tested positive over the weekend — was not involved in direct patient care and is being treated at home, according to the hospital, which is near South Miami.

“We are following the recommended CDC and public health protocols to inform and provide guidance to those who might have been in close contact with this employee during the period when he/she might have been contagious,” the hospital said in a written statement. “To preserve the privacy of our employee, we are unable to provide additional information.”

Florida’s Department of Health confirmed 164 additional cases of COVID-19 in the state Monday morning, bringing the state total of confirmed cases to 1,171. Miami-Dade County has a total of 267 cases, as of Monday morning. Broward has a total of 258.
