Sunday update: More than 1,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Fla.; 227 in Dade, 217 in Broward

There are 177 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Florida, the state announced Sunday evening, bringing the total to 1,007.

Of that 1,007, Broward County has 217 and Miami-Dade County has 227, accounting for 23% of the state’s total and surpassing Broward as the county with the highest number of positive cases.

The lone death since Saturday evening’s report from the state was the first in the coronavirus pandemic from Palm Beach County, which had a 13-case rise in total cases (72). Florida’s death toll now stands at 13 or 1.57% of the state’s case total.

As for total numbers tested in Florida, 11,270 people have been tested, with 9,330 negative results and 933 pending. The state’s monitoring 1,147 people.

Broward’s 37 new cases still makes it the county with the second highest volume of cases. Broward’s home to the Atria Willow Wood assisted living facility where at least 10 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and three people have died. Only eleven of Broward’s 217 cases come from non-residents, while 35% are travel-related.

Another 207 test results in Broward are pending. Overall, 2,124 people have been tested and 1,700 tests have come back negative.

Meanwhile, Miami-Dade has a staggering 50 new cases. Non-residents account for 10 of the Miami-Dade cases. Overall, 25% of the cases are travel-related.

There remains only one confirmed COVID-19 case in Monroe County.
