Coronavirus affects Miami-Dade transit. No more fares, how to get on the Metrobus changes

Novel coronavirus has upended life in Miami-Dade County. Businesses are partially closed, some cities have curfews and going to get groceries or home supplies has become a challenge. In the latest list of changes, Miami-Dade transit will be getting major changes during the coronavirus outbreak.

Starting Sunday, all Miami-Dade transit fares and parking fees at Metrorail stations will be suspended, said the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works on Saturday.

“These measures are being implemented for the safety of transit riders and employees in order to lessen the need for non-essential interactions,” transportation and public works said in a statement.

Along with the suspension of fares, Metrobus riders will now have to board using the back entrance. Those who need access to the wheelchair accessible ramp will still be able to use it.

Those who have monthly pass will have auto reloads suspended.

“The department continues to urge the community to use public transit for essential trips only and for riders to practice social distancing while using transit,” public works said.
