WWE WrestleMania 36 won’t happen in Tampa — but you’ll still be able to watch it

The much anticipated WrestleMania 36 in Tampa has been canceled because of COVID-19 concerns.

It would have been the first time Tampa hosted WWE’s biggest pro wrestling/sports entertainment event.

WrestleMania 36 was set to be held Sunday, April 5, at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. A weeklong schedule of events, WrestleMania Axxess, tied to Wrestlemania at the Tampa Convention Center has also been canceled.

“In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place,” WWE posted on its website Monday.

WrestleMania, however, will go on in a closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando. Only “essential personnel” will be there.

The matches will still stream live at 7 p.m. April 5 on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view.

Last month, WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter visited the Miami Herald to promote the upcoming WrestleMania.

“Hope you’re all gonna come there and meet all the superstars of today and a few of us legends,” he said.
