Brazil’s president said he tested negative for coronavirus. He’ll be re-tested: report
Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro likely will be tested again for the novel coronavirus after a first test done Thursday showed a negative result, Brazilian news service G1 said Friday night, quoting the country’s Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta.
Medical protocol recommends retesting seven days after the first exam, but if symptoms such as fever are present, then the test can be done at any moment, Mandetta said, according to G1.
Bolsonaro was tested on Thursday during a checkup at Brasilia’s Armed Forces Hospital after returning from last week’s five-day trip to Florida. Friday, the president announced on his Facebook page that the result was negative.
Bolsonaro’s press secretary, who accompanied him to a dinner with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on March 7, tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. Several people with whom he met during that visited have tested positive as well, including Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. President Trump has said he has been tested but doesn’t yet have results.
