Carnival Paradise helps rescue Cubans from raft, company says

Eight Cuban migrants were rescued over the weekend after their small raft was spotted by the Carnival Paradise in the waters between Florida and the Cayman Islands, the Doral-based cruise company confirmed.

In a statement, the company said the ship, based in Tampa and heading to Grand Cayman and Cozumel, left Saturday and encountered the raft Sunday.

On the raft were seven men and one woman. The group was brought on board and provided medical evaluations, food and water, according to the cruise company.

On Monday, the migrants were put in the custody of Cayman authorities.
