Royal Caribbean hires chief marketing officer from Carnival

Jim Berra, chief marketing officer at Carnival Cruise Line since 2008, has been hired by rival Royal Caribbean International for the same job.

Berra starts his new gig at the end of the month. He will oversee the Miami-based cruise line’s marketing program, which includes advertising, brand development, communications and brand strategy.

He fills the vacant role of senior vice president of marketing at Royal Caribbean International and will report to the line’s president and CEO, Michael Bayley.

“With so many exciting initiatives on the immediate horizon for our brand, we feel that Jim’s impressive history of creativity and proven results will continue the momentum of innovation the brand has created,” Bayley said in a statement.

Before working at Carnival, which has headquarters in Doral, Berra was senior vice president and general manager for Rodale Interactive, the online arm of media company Rodale. He has also worked in marketing at Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.
