An MSC Cruises passenger died Thursday after going overboard as a ship approached Port Canaveral, the cruise line confirmed.

In an email to the Miami Herald, the cruise line said after MSC Meraviglia systems let crew know know there was a passenger overboard, “the crew performed an immediate search and rescue operation, alongside the U.S. Coast Guard who supported search efforts with boats and a helicopter.”

The U.S. Coast Guard announced via Twitter at 8:05 a.m. that a 36-year-old woman’s body had been recovered 18 miles off the Florida coast.

The Meraviglia was coming in from Ocean Cay in the Bahamas to end one cruise and is scheduled to start another cruise Thursday evening.
