Virgin Cruises announcement coming Tuesday
The cruise world is about to learn more about newcomer Virgin Cruises.
A press event is scheduled for Tuesday morning in Miami, but details in advance of the announcement were scarce.
In a notice to media, publicists said Virgin Cruises CEO Tom McAlpin and Richard Branson, the billionaire entrepreneur who founded Virgin Group, will “make waves” with a major announcement about the “next exciting evolution” of the company. They will be joined by “several prominent guests” at the event at the Pérez Art Museum Miami.
The press release hinted that a spectacle was in order, teasing that Branson would make “a very Virgin kind of arrival.”
In December, Virgin Group said that it was partnering with investment firm Bain Capital to form South Florida-based Virgin Cruises. At the time, plans called for the cruise line to operate two ships, but the company would not reveal any information about those vessels, including how much they will cost, where they will be built or when they will launch.
