Need to charge your phone? This company wants to help at dozens of Miami bars

It’s a problem as old as the cellphone: What do you do when you’re on the town and you need a charge?

One company thinks it’s finally solved the problem.

Nathan Ruff, based in Nashville, created Rabbit to address city dwellers’ battery blues once and for all. The solution is a kiosk containing charging units about the size of an iPhone itself. That allows users to keep their phone with them while it charges.

“The ideal model needs to be fast, affordable, and portable, and convenient,” Ruff said. “That’s where we come in.”

The packs, known as “Carrots,” can be activated and returned at any Rabbit kiosk located throughout the city. They cost 99 cents an hour, with a daily maximum charge of $4.95. The user can also choose to own the battery and recharge it themselves for $39.95.

After downloading the Rabbit mobile app, users scan a QR code to rent a Carrot charging pack. Each Carrot has the capacity to provide a phone with two full charges.

The Carrot has iPhone, Micro USB, and USB-C cords built in, covering 98% of all phones on the market. Consumers can check the Rabbit app to see where the nearest charging kiosks are for pickup or drop-off locations.

A full charge takes an hour.

Right now there are 35 kiosks at downtown, Wynwood and South Beach nightspots — with two to three more arriving daily.

Ruff says the launch in Miami is timed to coincide with the Super Bowl, and that its status as an international travel hub made it a logical choice as the latest place to roll them out.

Rabbit already has one local fan in Liz Herrick, a representative for La V nightclub in Brickell.

“It’s crazy they don’t have this everywhere,” she said.
