From billionaires to affordable housing, catch up on Miami real estate
Four out of five. That’s how many of the world’s richest people have homes in Miami, according to Forbes‘ recently published 2026 billionaire list. The four men have a combined net worth totaling about $940 billion.
The world’s second- and third-richest people, Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, recently made headlines in Miami when they purchased megamillion waterfront estates. Page bought three properties in Coconut Grove totaling around $188 million, and Brin bought a $51 million home on a double lot on Allison Island in Miami Beach.
The world’s fifth-richest person, Mark Zuckerberg, broke Miami-Dade’s record for most expensive home sale earlier this month with a $170 million partially completed waterfront mansion in Indian Creek, aka the Billionaire Bunker.
One of his neighbors on the exclusive gated island will be Jeff Bezos, the fourth-richest on the list. Bezos, who spent part of his childhood in Miami, started buying homes on the island in 2023.
It was a big year for billionaires. Forbes reported there were a record-breaking 3,428 people with $1 billion or more in its most recent list, which is 400 more than there were last year.
Let us know what you think about the billionaire influx. Is it good for our economy, or will it just exacerbate inequality?
