Miami students may soon come together at proposed Abbey Road music school
First came the Istituto Marangoni, a world-class academy training students in fashion and the arts that opened in the Design District.
Now, Miami-area adult students looking for a targeted arts education may soon have another option. And it comes with a household name.
The Abbey Road Institute, a specialist music production school created by London’s Abbey Road Studios, announced Monday that it will launch its first U.S. academy in Miami.
Slated to open in 2020, the school is the product of a partnership with multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy winner Julio Reyes Copello. It will be housed at his studio, Miami Art House, in Coral Way. Reyes Copello will serve as head mentor.
“My goal is for aspiring producers, engineers and artists to learn by direct experience. To be thrown in the middle of actual professional recording sessions and learn by doing, is the most effective, honest and responsible way of acquiring the skills needed for a career in music,” Copello said in a release.
The Institute notes graduates have gone on to work at organizations including Universal Music, Spotify, Netflix, Redbull Studios, and Apple.
In addition to a Diploma in Music Production and Sound Engineering, Copello will also oversee a bespoke Diploma in Music Performance, which will provide a training ground for up-and-coming artists. Working alongside music production students, the pairing will result “in a fully produced EP professionally overseen by Reyes Copello and his team.”
Enrollment for fall 2020 has begun. Students must be at least 18 years old. Tuition is $45,350, including a $500 registration fee. The standard diploma consists of 3 terms, and $14,950 is due before the start of each term.
