TotalBank on Tuesday named longtime South Florida banking executive Jay Pelham as president.

Pelham has served as the Miami-based bank’s executive vice president in charge of private clients and wealth management since August 2015. He previously held a senior role at Gibraltar Private Bank & Trust and also worked at BankUnited and SunTrust Bank.

“TotalBank's strategic vision includes expanding into new business lines and potentially new geographies while still providing continued strong support for our existing client base,” Jorge Rossell, TotalBank’s chairman and once-again CEO, said in a statement. “Jay’s diverse skill set, tenure in the local marketplace and proven leadership ability make him ideally suited for this role.”

Pelham, who was educated at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, serves as the 2015-16 chairman of the board for HistoryMiami Museum and as a trustee for the United Way of Miami-Dade.

He replaces former president Luis de la Aguilera, who was also the bank’s CEO.

De la Aguilera resigned to take the reins at U.S. Century Bank in December, a few weeks after TotalBank laid off at least 15 percent of its workforce. Rossell succeeded de la Aguilera in the CEO role, which he also had held between 2009 and 2014.
