E-commerce fraudsters target South Florida

Floridians are more likely than anyone in the country to fall victim to e-commerce billing fraud, according to a new report from Experian.

The credit and information company analyzed millions of e-commerce transactions to calculate the attack rates in each ZIP code — for both shipping fraud and billing fraud.

Fraud by ZIP code: Miami is hit hard

Nineteen of the nation’s 100 riskiest ZIP codes for billing fraud were in South Florida. Fifteen of those were in the Miami area: 33178, ranked second overall; 33172, 33122, 33166, 33195, 33150, 33162, 33126, 33170, 33167, 33127, 33147, 33168, 33102 and 33169. (Some Miami-area ZIP codes were listed twice on the chart.) One — 33351 — was in Fort Lauderdale.

Thirty of the 100 riskiest ZIP codes for shipping fraud were in South Florida. Nineteen of those were in the Miami area: 33195, ranked second overall; 33192, at No. 3; 33172, at No. 4; 33166, at No. 5; and 33150; 33178; 33122; 33162; 33126; 33167; 33127; 33168; 33147; 33170; 33106; 33178; 33169; 33161; and 33142. (Again, some Miami-area ZIP codes were listed twice on the chart.)

Three were in Fort Lauderdale: 33351, 33311 and 33313. One was in Hollywood: 33023.
