Canyon Ranch to change name when sale closes
As new owners prepare to take over the Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach, one change is already certain: The property will no longer carry the name of the destination spa resort.
In a letter to owners of the condo units that also carry the name, a representative of buyer Z Capital Partners said the hotel at 6801 Collins Ave. will initially use its original name, the Carillon Hotel & Spa.
Thomas Wicky, the Illinois-based equity firm’s managing director and operating partner, said in the letter that the property will be managed by a joint venture with members of the team that developed and launched the high-end Setai. The Miami Herald secured a copy of the letter Tuesday after it was posted Monday by Curbed Miami.
Wicky wrote that the hotel will get a full rebrand later this year after some areas — including dining options, retail spaces and the hair salon — are upgraded.
A bankruptcy judge approved the sale of the property in late November. The deal is expected to close soon.
