Drip and dip: Gas prices continue to drop in South Florida
Let’s all hit the road. Gas prices continued to drop in the Miami area last week.
Prices dipped 2.1 cents a gallon, according to a weekly survey of 1,690 stations by GasBuddy.com. That makes the average price at the pump in Miami-Dade $2.15 a gallon.
Across the country, the average price dipped below $2 a gallon, $1.99, for the first time since 2009, according to AAA. Florida prices are slightly above $2.
For perspective, gas is 42.5 cents cheaper than the same time a year ago.
Gas prices are even lower in Georgia at $1.92 and Tennessee at $1.79. The average $2.02 price in Florida could dip below $2 this week, according to AAA.
"A global oversupply of oil has led to the lowest gas prices for the year-end holidays since 2008," Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA, said in a briefing. "This will make travel more affordable for the 91.3 million Americans forecast to drive during the next two weeks."
