Low-cost VivaColombia takes off at Miami International Airport
International low-cost carrier VivaColombia launched its first service in the United States Wednesday when it began flights between Miami International Airport and Medellín, Colombia.
The budget carrier, which serves 11 cities in Colombia and three other destinations in Latin America, will begin Miami-Bogotá service on December 16. The new flights will utilize 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.
“We are proud to welcome VivaColombia to our growing roster of airlines, and to provide our travelers with another travel option to Medellín and Bogotá,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González. “With nearly 1.3 million passengers annually, Colombia is our second-busiest international market, and we look forward to serving more travelers on these popular routes with VivaColombia.”
VivaColombia’s Miami-Medellín flights, which operate Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, arrive in Miami at 10:10 a.m. and depart for Medellín at 11:50 a.m. The Miami-Bogotá schedule, which will also operate on the same days, will arrive in Miami at 7:05 p.m. and depart for Bogotá at 8:35 p.m.
VivaColombia is Colombia’s second-largest airline, the nation’s leading budget carrier, and MIA’s sixth international low-cost carrier.
