Gas prices have changed in South Florida after July 4 weekend. Check your area

If you’re back to work after the long holiday weekend or heading out on a summer road trip, take note: Gas prices have dipped this week in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas. That reverses a trend that led to higher prices at the pump before July 4.

As of Monday, July 6, gas prices are down a few cents a gallon across South Florida from the same time last week. Prices across the country also are down.

Except in the Keys, gas prices continue to average under $4 a gallon. The average Miami-area price is 14 cents a gallon lower per gallon than a month ago but 73 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida

North Florida is the cheapest to pump in Florida while the Keys, Naples and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas to buy gas, according to AAA.

What the experts are saying

▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy:

“Average gasoline prices fell in nearly every state over the last week, with diesel declining in all 50, pushing the national average to approximately $3.74 per gallon this July 4 — the third most expensive Independence Day on record, but well off the peak of $4.57 per gallon seen in May. GasBuddy is now tracking 41 states with average gasoline prices below $4 per gallon, while 37 states are seeing average diesel prices below $5. However, continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian refinery infrastructure have forced Russia to shift from fuel exporter to importer, tightening global supplies and putting upward pressure on crack spreads — explaining why pump prices haven’t fallen as sharply as oil prices might suggest. Until the refining supply picture improves, significant further drops at the pump may be limited.”
