Mirae Asset joins with U.S.-based Ondo Finance for tokenized ETFs

June 16 (UPI) -- South Korea's Mirae Asset Global Investments said Tuesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with U.S.-based Ondo Finance to advance the ecosystem for tokenized exchange-traded funds, or ETFs.

The Seoul-based asset management firm noted that the two partners will collaborate on developing blockchain-based investment products and expanding the market for tokenized financial assets.

In particular, they plan to focus on initiatives such as tokenizing EFTs and debuting digital investment products aimed at global investors, according to Mirae Asset. The move comes as tokenization of traditional assets gains momentum across the world.

Ondo Finance is a pioneer in the real-world asset tokenization sector. The company offers tokenized investment products backed by U.S. Treasuries, including USDY and OUSG.

Its Ondo Global Markets platform, which facilitates the issuance and trading of tokenized stocks and ETFs, has surpassed $1 billion in total value locked, Mirae Asset said.

"Mirae Asset is a top-tier global asset manager that launches and manages a diversified lineup of ETF products through its overseas subsidiaries," Ondo Finance CEO Ian De Bode said.

"Mirae Asset's decision to bring its ETFs on-chain through Ondo Global Markets demonstrates that not only retail but also institutional investors are now entering the tokenization space in earnest."

Mirae Asset President Kim Young-hwan said that tokenization is emerging as a key driver of change in the asset management industry.

"Tokenization is one of the core technologies that will reshape the future of asset management," he said. "Through our cooperation with Ondo Finance, we will position our global ETF lineup for the next generation of capital market infrastructure."

Mirae Asset Global Investments is not publicly listed.
