Looking for a job? See who’s hiring for what at this Miami event
More than 60 companies at a Miami job fair will offer opportunities to people looking for work in a state that has an unemployment rate higher than the national average.
Job candidates will find private businesses and government agencies at the fair, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the Padrón campus of Miami Dade College at NW 27th Avenue and Seventh Street.
The annual hiring event, organized by the office of U.S. Rep. María Elvira Salazar of Miami, will offer jobs in law enforcement, social services, education, engineering and technology.
In April, Florida’s unemployment rate was 4.8%, higher than the national rate of 4.3%. Unemployment has risen for eight consecutive months in the state, and in April 532,000 Floridians were out of work, according to the state economic development office, FloridaCommerce.
Salazar, a Republican who represents the 27th district, has been organizing this type of job fair for five years to connect with people in South Florida.
“As a member of Congress, I will continue working to forge partnerships that strengthen our workforce, support families, and deliver meaningful results for the community we serve,” she said.
Salazar’s office says you can register to confirm your attendance at salazar.house.gov/about/events/fifth-job-fair.
Bring several copies of your résumé and dress professionally when meeting company and agency representatives.
The job fair will be held in Building 6 of the Padrón campus of Miami Dade College, 627 SW 27th Ave.
