Gas prices are down 10 to 20 cents a gallon in South Florida. Check prices
Gas prices have dipped by double digits across South Florida ahead of Memorial Day travel next weekend.
As of Monday, May 18, prices in the state are down nearly 20 cents a gallon from a week ago. But that’s still significantly higher than last year, and prices could rise.
“Memorial Day travelers will pay about $17 more than last year to fill an average sized tank of gas,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Global supply concerns regarding the conflict with Iran has kept upward pressure on fuel prices. This could continue through the summer months unless a resolution is reached.”
The average Miami-area price is more than 16 cents a gallon higher per gallon than a month ago and $1.25 higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida
North Florida remains the cheapest to pump in Florida while Naples and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas to buy gas, according to AAA.

What the experts are saying
▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy:
“The national average price of gasoline spent much of last week drifting lower after jumping early in the week as oil prices softened on hopes that diplomatic progress between the U.S. and Iran could help ease supply concerns. However, that optimism faded after President Trump’s meeting with China’s Xi Jinping failed to produce a breakthrough on Iran, while renewed warnings toward Tehran have helped push oil prices higher again. With global oil inventories continuing to trend toward historically tight levels, markets remain extremely sensitive to geopolitical developments and potential supply disruptions. As a result, gasoline and diesel prices are likely to remain volatile, and with Memorial Day approaching, any sustained increase in oil prices could begin pushing retail fuel prices higher again in the weeks ahead.”
